Introducing The Waylens Horizon Dashcam System

Posted by The Dashcam Store on Jun 01, 2017

Auto enthusiasts, we’re thrilled to introduce you to the Waylens brand and their flagship dash cam, the Horizon!

The team behind Waylens is made up of world-class engineers, car enthusiasts, and designers who want to build the best dash cameras in the world. Waylens, based in Boston, Massachusetts, was founded in 2014. Waylens Inc. was initially launched as a Kickstarter project. Over 1,500 backers and $600,000 later, Waylens released their flagship dashcam, the Waylens Horizon, in 2015. They have been successfully designing and manufacturing the Horizon camera system ever since.

The Horizon system allows drivers to easily capture, edit, and share interesting moments—in real time—right from the road with its innovative camera, OBD-II transmitter, remote, and mobile app.

What sets the Waylens Horizon apart?

Design

While the vast majority of dash cams are designed and manufactured in Asia, the Waylens Horizon is one of the first dash cams designed from the ground up in the USA. The attention to detail that the Waylens team has put into the design of the Horizon system is impeccable. The Horizon’s conical shape, mount, and performance data overlays are industry-firsts. It’s 7-element lens was designed to withstand harsh automotive environments. The dual-purpose connector was constructed to connect to both data and power through its suction-cup mount.

Performance Data and Dashboard

Design your own virtual dashboard. The Waylens Horizon gives you complete control over your data, how you view it, and how you share it. You can choose which data points to show from speed and RPMs to G forces, ambient condition, GPS location, and much more. You can also flip through different gauges on the OLED display while you drive to get real-time feedback.

Video Editing

When you open the Waylens mobile app, you can quickly locate highlight-worthy moments that you have identified with the help of the remote and Horizon’s algorithm and easily use them for further editing and sharing. Want to be more hands-on with editing footage? Horizon’s system allows you to define data-driven parameters and perform smart searches on your footage to find exactly what you want. You can also choose which pieces of performance data you want overlaid on your footage.

Community

Similar to Waze, Waylens has created an online community for owners of the Horizon through their extensive app. You can connect with anyone around the world through the Waylens app. Scroll through your newsfeed to see where friends have been driving, compare your ride to others, build your community, ask for advice, and brag about your 0 to 60 time all within the Waylens app.

What People Are Saying About The Waylens Horizon

Car nuts and data geeks just found their next toy. - Darren Murph, Tech Radar
Although I didn't have the opportunity to take the camera out by myself on a track, I was pretty impressed with the whole setup. Accessing the settings is intuitive, and using the app to edit was really easy. - Emme Hall, Roadshow
In terms of build quality, there’s really nothing out there in the dash cam or action camera space that matches the Horizon. - Darrell Etherington, Tech Crunch
OK, you won't be capturing your sector times on a race track, but if the point is to put together cool-looking videos with some data overlays, the Horizon has its more expensive competitors beat. - Jonathan Gitlin, Arts Technica
[Waylens] built a social side of the app that lets you post that data-rich footage in a place where everyone else is posting similar stuff. The potential of that is great. Like how fitness apps now let skiers and snowboarders track, share, and compare their runs on the mountain, Waylens could become the place to brag about what drivers are doing with their cars — on or off the track. - Sean O'Kane, The Verge
A dedicated action camera for the car is an enthusiast-only device at $500, but Waylens has nailed its intended purpose with a camera that delivers great results consistently, and makes editing even longer streams a snap thanks to the included Bluetooth LE highlight remote and multiple editing and sharing options. - Darren Murph, Tech Radar
