Our friend Dan, better known as @NormalGuySupercar came to visit our shop to see what we do here. We chatted about some of the better consumer dashcams, from our top of the line BlackVue 900S to some (in my opinion) underrated dashcams, like the Garmin’s 45, 55 and 65W with their ingenious 360-degree mounting technique. We also touched on what might be best if you’re looking to save some money but still get a reliable dashcam with great quality. For the price, Thinkware’s F100 is a great camera for a little over $100. The F100 has a plethora of secondary camera configurations that you can add on at any time, unlike most competitors that require you to buy the full configuration from the start. We briefly talked about Vantrue’s N2 Pro which has excellent quality and was one of the first to market with a dual 1080p system for rideshare drivers, taxis, and even new drivers.
He asked me, “What is the best camera for an average consumer?” and I told him BlackVue’s DR750S is by far the best solution out there. Being cloud-capable and possessing both WiFi and GPS, along with excellent video quality @ 1080p running 60fps. In addition, the 750S also uses Sony STARVIS image sensors to light up any low light condition and has a very sleek design, along with numerous other bells and whistles – the 750S is by far the best solution out there if you’re looking for a great camera, that doesn’t completely break the bank. I also let him know that BlackVue’s new flagship model, the DR900S has everything the 750S has PLUS 4k resolution, which is why the DR900S is my personal favorite. Not everyone has a 4K monitor or TV, so you can always buy the DR900S and change the settings to record @ 1080p with 60FPS if you just want to future proof your camera.
I also briefly touched on our #1 selling fleet dashcam solution, the AVIC Elites, which also run full 1080p, have GPS, but also possess a tamper-proof case and built in power cables, so the camera is always running and only the keyholder will have access to the memory card. It’s perfect for protecting your people and your vehicles.
After a discussion on which dashcams may be best for consumer and business use, we did a quick tour of the facility and headed to the back for an install on my 2013 Subaru STi.
Matt went through some of the basics of an install, which you can find more detailed instructions on here. We wrapped up explaining some of our alternative mounting solutions that can help with those untraditional installs. Say for example, you want to attach your camera to an A or B pillar, or even to your rear hatch but cannot use the rear glass. Maybe your rear glass rolls down and aren’t sure how to get that rear camera installed – we have a solution for that as well!
We close by giving a BlackVue DR750S and polarizing filter to Dan, so he can pass it on to his viewers. We believe everyone should have a dashcam, so we are more than happy to give away the occasional camera. Our feelings are that we can dramatically reduce traffic accidents in America by equipping cars with dashcams.
